Thank you to everyone who participated in the 2024 count! Mark your calendars for the 59th annual Bloomington CBC on Dec 20, 2025!
The Bloomington count circle is centered at the intersection of Hwy 77 and Hwy 13 (latitude: 44.8127, longitude: -93.2199). It is a very complex circle, divided into 24 areas. (Note that for 2024, we have divided Areas 1, 2, 3, and 20 in half to create 4 new areas.)
Below are Google Maps for the entire count circle. You can use them for reference, and use while counting and keep track of where your are in your count area using Google Maps. To use them on your phone, open an individual area map on your phone, and it should bring up in Google Maps. Printable PDF versions of these maps are also available to download. To see a full screen view, click on the [ ] icon on the top right.
Scroll down the page to see eBird sightings and hotspots superimposed on our count circle map. If your're curious how I got that data, see my code at https://github.com/lizmstanley/cbc_utils (yes, I'm a software engineer.)
This area map shows recent eBird sightings that have been reported within the count circle in the last 7 days. It includes different layers for notable, confirmed and provisional sightings. Click on the [ ] icon on the top right to open a full screen view, and select different layers to switch between them (for example to filter out provisional sightings.)
This map shows all the eBird hotspots within our count circle. These are good locations to find birds! Click on the [Â ] icon on the right to open up a full screen view of the map.
