2023 Count Results

2023 Bloomington Christmas Bird Count Fun facts

• We had 69 field observers and 8 feeder counters across 20 areas who collectively found 53 species and 11,685 individual birds.

• Canada geese seen in every area, for a total of 3141 and by far the most counted of all species.

• Hardly any brown creepers this year! Only 2 total.

• Only one white throated sparrow seen - by Lisa Stanford at her home feeders in Bloomington.

• The Lebanon Hills red-headed woodpecker made an appearance in Area 1.

• Stan reported 2 snow buntings in area 19.

• Three swamp sparrows were found, each in a different area:

  • Melia in Area 3.

  • Steve, Becca and Katie in Area 7..

  • Jeanne and Elizabeth in Area 18

• Monica and the Urban Bird Collective found a red shouldered hawk in Area 5.

• Jim and Maureen found a Wilson's snipe (got a photo of it!) in Area 16.
