Thank you to everyone who participated in the 2024 count! Mark your calendars for the 59th annual Bloomington CBC on Dec 20, 2025!
Welcome to the Bloomington MN Christmas Bird Count website!
Our count circle has been active since 1966. Here's where you'll find all the information about the CBC and how to join/participate in the world's longest running citizen science project.
The Bloomington CBC is held on the first Saturday of the count season (on or after Dec 14) each year. Per Audubon protocol, it must be held on the designated day, so only birds counted on that day will be reported.
Our circle includes several suburbs on the south side of the Twin Cities. The circle is divided into 24 different areas, each which its own counters assigned. Counters within an area may coordinate amongst themselves to cover that area. Some smaller areas may be covered by a solo counter.
We welcome new counters! For those who don't have prior CBC experience, we will work to have you go with an experienced counter. We distribute experienced counters according to what areas need coverage.
Normally we hold a post count gathering potluck at the Minnesota Valley National Wildife Refuge visitor center. Counters can bring their completed count sheets, and share how their day went. It's a nice opportunity to meet your fellow counters and socialize a bit. We encourage you to attend and bring a side dish for the potluck!
Please review this website to learn more about the count and use it as a resource for all the information you need to have a successful and enjoyable CBC.
