2024 Bloomington Christmas Bird Count Fun facts

• We had 60 field observers across 24 areas, who collectively found 56 species and 7832 total birds.

  • Due to many regular counters being unavailable, and the inclement weather - areas 4, 8, and 19 were not counted. A few other areas only had feeder counters.

  • Though we found 3 more species than last year, we were down almost 4000 individual birds counted.

• Mallards win the highest counted species award this year!

• Liz found a fox sparrow in area 10, and also a Harlan's red tailed hawk.

• Ryan saw red-breasted mergansers in Area 17.

• Winter wrens were seen in areas 7 and 18.
